Dear Lake Harwinton Association Members,

I hope this message finds you well. I’m writing to share an important update regarding the Septic System
Pumping and Inspection initiative that was discussed during the April 2026 LHA General Membership meeting.
As many of you will recall, the membership voted at that meeting to move forward with creating a formal
ordinance to support the longterm health and sustainability of our lake and surrounding properties. Since then,
the Ordinance Committee and LHA Board of Governors have been working diligently to draft a clear, practical,
and effective framework that reflects the intent of that vote—to implement the ordinance expeditiously and
responsibly. As we strive to protect and preserve water quality in the years to come, the BOG views this
ordinance as an important part of that effort.

 

The draft ordinance is posted on the LHA website for your review. Click here. Briefly, the ordinance requires that:

 

A. Septic tanks must be pumped and inspected (tank and baffles) by a licensed professional at least once
every 3 years. (If your practice is to pump more often than every 3 years please keep doing so!)

 

B. Proof of pumping and inspection (copy of receipt) must be submitted to the LHA Secretary within 10
days of service.

 

C. Any repairs or replacements needed must be completed within 60 days of discovering the problem.

Another opportunity for comment on this ordinance is the August 17th BOG Meeting at the Town Hall. This meeting will begin with 30 minutes of member comment from 6:30 – 7:00pm. The regular monthly BOG meeting agenda will follow. The BOG plans to vote on the new ordinance at the September 21, 2026 BOG Meeting. Our goal is to ensure the final version is both effective and reflective of the community’s collective priorities.
